MAD Group

The MAD Group at St Oswald's C of E Academy is the school council. Two pupils from each class (Year 1 to Year 6) are voted by their class mates to represent their views on the council.

The children chose the name MAD. It stands for Make a Difference, which is the main aim of the group.

So far this year the children have discussed with their classmates and designed posters surrounding drinking water not juice and saving water when using the taps. We have also discussed composting fruit, recycling and being environmentally friendly.

REUSABLE BOTTLES AND DRINKING WATER

The MAD councillors recognised lots of children were bringing in juice and not water to school. They were also not bringing bottles and using cups which made the sides in the corridors look messy.

In order to promote bringing in a bottle with water in, each class has designed a poster to encourage drinking water to be healthy and to turn off the taps. We are trying to be environmentally friendly by saving water too.

SUPERBLOOM
This year is the Queen’s Platinum jubilee. The Tower of London are doing something incredibly special to celebrate. Many gardeners are transforming the moat into a ‘Superbloom’ wildflower experience.  This means that there will be an ocean of colourful flowers for the summer.

We have been kindly gifted some wildflower seeds for us to plant in school to create our own ‘Superbloom’. The MAD councillors were delighted to see the seed packets and the information leaflet which shows all the beautiful flowers we will see.

As a school, we will be planting these seeds around the school, so hopefully in the summer the children and grownups can enjoy the beauty.
