Homework due in

Homework sent home

Please remember homework goes home on a Thursday and is due in on the following Tuesday. Please listen to your child read as often as possible during the week. Reading is a very important life skill and needs to be practised as often as possible. Remember that reading does not just have to be their school reading book - they can read any book, newspaper or magazine or use a computer based reading program.

It is essential that children have a full kit, including pumps as they may be outside.

Please refer to the separate letter sent home about appropriate clothing, or contact us on Class Dojo for more information

Year 2 SATs Information for Parents

This Half-term

Fire and Ice will be our main topic focus across the summer term.

In English we will be continuing work on dragon texts. We will be writing the script for and acting out our own news report as well as writing a newspaper report.

We will then move onto write instructions for ‘how to trap a dragon’ using the features of an instruction text and imperative verbs.

We will continue our spelling lessons learning new rules each week and applying these within our own writing. There will also be a focus on grammar and the children should be able to check their own work for mistakes by reading it back.

Most of our reading will link with the topic and include a variety of books about Dragons. (Fiction, non-fiction and poetry). We would encourage the children to explore different text at home as part of this.

We will also have a class text where the children will be read a more challenging book as a class.

In maths, we will learn about 'measures', looking at how we measure length, mass, capacity and temperature. We will estimate and measure in different ways, extending our knowledge of reading scales marked in different ways. We will also extend our knowledge of statistics, creating and interpreting graphs and charts and writing our our questions about data.

As Geographers we will continue to improve our knowledge of countries/ continents and become increasingly confident with using an atlas.

We will also continue to learn about geographical similarities and differences through studying a small area of the UK, and of a small area in a cold place.

As historians we will learn about changes within living memory.

We are looking forward to our Forest School sessions each week, where we will be finding out more about 'survival' and using and extending our skills in geography and science.
