Autumn Term

This term we have started working on a book called 'Here we are' by Oliver Jeffers. His   inspiration behind  Here We Are was his new son and his desire to introduce him to “the big globe, floating in space, on which we  live”.  Here We Are encompasses the mountains and oceans, space and constellations, and the animals and people who populate the Earth. The handwritten facts throughout the book are a gentle plea to care for the planet and each other.

In Numeracy we are working on place value, partitioning and comparing numbers up to 100.

We start on addition and subtraction over the rest of this half term.

One of our main focusses is reading and phonics  and giving the children confidence in their own ability after so much lost learning.

Welcome to Year 2

Topics Covered this Term:

We are 'Saving the World' this term. This means we are looking at God's World, including the Polar regions and linking it our school Value of Stewardship, how we can play our part in preserving our world. As part of science we will also look at animals including humans - their habitat in relation to these areas of the world.

Other Relevant Information:

Please remember homework goes home on a Thursday and is due in on the following Tuesday. Please listen to your child read as often as possible during the week. Reading is a very important life skill and needs to be practised as often as possible. Remember that reading does not just have to be their school reading book - they can read any book, newspaper or magazine or use a computer based reading program.
