Thank you to our parents/carers for your commitment to your child’s attendance. 

The vast majority of parents ensure that their child attends regularly and on time and we have very few parents who do not support their child in this.

We love to see the happy faces of the children as they get to school on time to play with their friends before sitting down together, ready to learn.  Children who do not get to school on time or miss some days of school altogether find it more difficult to make friends and to catch up on their learning.  Please remember that our school day starts promptly at 8:45am and children who are late miss the beginning of their lessons.

Punctuality
Being on time is important to your child's education. If a child is persistently late, they miss the start of lessons, which may have a negative impact on their learning, confidence and self-esteem. Lateness disrupts your child, their class and the staff working with them.  Children are brought in by school staff at 8.45am from the playground.  Children who are late should enter through the academy office.

• Being 5 minutes late every day will result in your child losing around three learning days a year.
• Being 15 minutes late every day equates to having two complete weeks off a year.
• Being 30 minutes late daily equates to losing nineteen learning days a year.

Persistent lateness can result in a penalty notice being issued, which carries a fine.

If your child is unwell 

We know that sometimes your child may be unable to attend because they feel unwell.

In this case, please contact the school office, attendance line, email, or via the MCAS App and tell us your child’s name and the reason for absence, preferably before 9.00am each day your child is unwell. Some parents think that their child may be better off at home if they are ill, but generally, we are happy to have them in school and will keep a close eye on them to make sure that they are ok if you ask us to. We have also produced a helpful leaflet to help you to decide whether your child is well enough to come to school which can be downloaded from our website. We use NHS guidance to advise, and you can access this yourself here. 

If your child is absent from school, and we have not received a message from you, we will contact you as soon as possible to check that your child is safe and well. This may be by text message, telephone call or, where appropriate, a home visit.

Your child’s safety and wellbeing are extremely important to us, and we will continue to make reasonable efforts to contact you until we are reassured that your child is safe.

The vast majority of our parents recognise that their children are happiest and most successful in school when they attend regularly. 

For that reason, they do not ask for holidays during term time, because they know how damaging this can be for their child’s education.  If you feel that you still want to ask for your child’s holiday to be authorised despite this, then please ask to speak with the head teacher so that you can set out the special circumstances of your request.

If there is any other reason why you or your child is finding it difficult to attend school regularly and on time, then please do contact Miss Osborne or Mrs Geran who can help. We have helped many other parents and children in this way. Seeking early help, no matter the issue, we can prevent the issue from escalating.

School Closure

School closure will be announced as soon as the information has been verified and becomes available via the following methods:

• A text message will be sent from the academy confirming closure at the earliest opportunity.
• Local radio tend to report on all school closures.
