Nursery Class 2025/2026
Welcome to Nursery
Who's who
Mrs Greer - Class Teacher/EY Lead
Miss Storey - Early Years Practitioner
Welcome to our Nursery class page.
Here is some information about our class that you may find useful.
Reading/Little Wandle Foundations
In Nursery Class we use 'Little Wandle Foundations' to prepare our students for learning phonics in Reception Class through 'Little Wandle'.
The scheme of work provides sound foundations ahead of formal phonics teaching upon entry to school. The Nursery years are the best time to lay the foundations for your child’s future reading. By spending time talking with your child and focusing on the sounds of our language, you can help your child get ready for formal phonics teaching in Reception. In Nursery, it is tempting to get children to learn to read early, but we must remember that the best foundations for learning to read are built through talking, songs and rhymes, and sharing books.
As a result Nursery completes short sessions to build skills through story telling (Foundation for a Love of Reading), prephonics skills (Foundations for Phonics) and high quality interactions and song (Foundations for Language).

Home learning
In Nursery we invite our parents to undertake home learning tasks which are suggested on our Medium Term Plans. We are conscious that our families are very busy so task are planned to be a short or as long as your family wish to take. If family life has involved achievements, celebration and adventures we welcome families sharing this information so we are able to share this within class.
Each week the children are invited to take a book home from the Nursery Class lending library. The books available to borrow include a wide range of options to share with your child including tactile, sound and lift the flap books.
PE
From Autumn half term Nursery undertake short PE sessions on Friday Morning. We encourage the children to independently take off their shoes and socks then explore a range of physical activities in the school hall. Across the week we access both indoor and outdoor physical activities including obstacle courses, using ride on toys, dancing and yoga to continually support the children's physical development.
