Welcome to Reception
Who's who
Miss Courtenay - Class Teacher
Miss Burrell - Learning Support Assistant
Welcome to our Reception class page. Here is some information about our class that you may find useful.
Reading
Children will initially have a picture book which they can share with you, discussing what is happening in the book. Below is a link with some more information on how you can support your child with wordless books. When your child has learnt their first phonemes taught in class and is able to segment and blend words, they will have a reading book with words in. Below is a link with some information on supporting your child with reading at home.
Please hear your child read 3 times a week, for about 5 minutes, and sign their reading diary. Reading certificates are awarded after every 20th log in their reading diary. Reading Books and reading diaries should be brought into school every day.
Children will also bring home a shared reading book each week, chosen by your child from the school library. This book can be shared and read together with your child.

Homework
We send weekly home communication detailing what has been taught during the week through Class Dojo. There will be suggested activities detailed on each Medium Term Plan which shares information surrounding our upcoming learning for the half term. If you choose to complete challenges please send across photos and comments, all activities will support your child's learning in addition to school.
PE
PE for Reception will take place every Friday. Children can come to school wearing their full PE kit
(navy/black joggers or shorts, house colour/white t-shirt and dark jogging top or blue school jumper).
Forest School
Forest School will take place on a Friday afternoon in the summer term.
Forest School will happen in all weathers (unless it is VERY windy or icy). Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for the weather- wellies and puddle suits/ coats and a sunhat in sunny weather.

Reception have had a fantastic time exploring our winter topic, It’s Cold Outside!
We investigated what happens to water when it’s placed in the freezer, what happens when frozen water is taken out, and how long it takes to melt.
The children loved experimenting with making boats and discovering why some floated while others sank. Using Google Maps, we found the North Pole and South Pole and learnt about the amazing animals that live in the Arctic and Antarctica.
To finish the term, we enjoyed getting creative and making beautiful gifts to sell at our Christmas Fair! We even had a very special visit from Father Christmas, which made the day magical for everyone!
Next term, we’re blasting off into our exciting new topic: Out of This World, get ready for an adventure through space!
