Autumn Term 2023
This term we have lots of exciting topics. Please find some information below that tells you about our learning:
English
In English, we will be reading Whatever Next and retelling the story in our own words. The children will be describing different characters within the story and writing about them. The children will be learning to apply their phonics skills to start writing words and sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
Reading
Children will bring home their phonics reading book every Thursday. We encourage children to read with a grown up at least three times a week and we ask that children's diaries are signed each time they have been heard read. Below are some useful references for questions to ask children as they read.
Reading books need to be back in school on a Wednesday to be changed.
Maths
In Maths, we are recapping our numbers to 10 and thinking about number composition as well as developing counting fluency. We will be ordering and comparing numbers and explaining 'why' and 'how we know' to deepen our thinking further.
Science
In Science, we are investigating different materials and describing their properties. Children will be working scientifically to explore different objects around school and describe the material they think they are made from. They will be encouraged to think about other objects that are made from the same material and discuss similarities and differences between them.
Topic
In our topic My Town, My School we are going to be learning about our local area and our school and the changes that have taken place over time. As Geographers, We will be thinking about the layout of our school and children will be drawing their own maps of the classroom. As Historians, we will be learning about our school over time and looking back at some photos from the past to see what changes we can notice.
RE
In our unit on Understanding Christianity, we will be learning about God and the creation story.
PSHE
In PSHE, we will be thinking and talking about how we can look after ourselves, our friends and our family.
PE & Forest School
This term we start Forest School. This is a really exciting time in the week where children get to take their learning outside. This term, the children are learning about habitats. It is really important that children have a change of clothes that is suitable for outdoors and this can include:
Wellies
waterproofs
old 'scruffy' clothes that can get muddy
Children should come into school wearing their PE kit and bring in clothes for Forest School. They will then get changed into their Forest School clothes. Please ensure that all clothes are clearly labelled.
